Lily Allen knew she could forge a career as a singer after parents were reduced to tears by her performance at a school concert.
The British pop star was encouraged to try out as a vocalist when a teacher heard her singing along to Oasis songs in the playground when she was a young schoolgirl.
She agreed to take part in a special concert for parents - and was inspired to pursue a singing career by the emotional reaction of the audience.
Allen tells Britain's Sky Arts channel, "I would listen to my Walkman in break time and I was singing along to Oasis songs and (my drama teacher) walked past and said, 'You should really try singing'. She gave me some one-to-one lessons, then we prepared for a concert at school and I sang and all the parents came and they cried and said I should go on singing."
