Early reviews for Showtime's latest series Ray Donovan have been extremely favourable. Critics have said this latest offering is 'testosterone' filled, 'muscular' and with great performances by Liev Schreiber and Jon Voight

Liev Schreiber plays Ray Donavan, a man who does the dirty work of the rich and famous. The first series centres around his antics with the L.A. elite and his relationship with his wayward father Mickey Donovan. Mickey has an equally shady past as he has recently been released from prison. Jon Voight plays Mickey and his performance has been praised with Ed Bark saying it is Voight "who gives this drama its ferocious, dangerous and sometimes creepy edge" (Ed Bark of Uncle Barky).

Schreiber's performance has not been ignored by the critics either who have said it is "sensational" (Chuck Barney of the San Jose Mercury).  Schreiber has predominately been in feature films so this escapade into a television series will mark a change for the 45-year-old actor. You'll probably know him best from his role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Sabretooth, although he has also appeared in Defiance, The Omen and Repo Men

Tim Goodman of The Hollywood Reporter said creator and writer Ann Biderman (Public Enemies and Southland) has "created the most testosterone, rough and intelligent drama [we've seen] in ages".

Paula Malcomson (The Hunger Games), Eddie Marsan (Mission: Impossible III), Katherine Moennig (The L Word), Dash Mihok (Silver Linings Playbook) and Kerris Dorsey (Brothers and Sisters) star as just some of Ray Donovan's extended family.

Other critics have claimed that "Based on the early episodes, we could be looking at television's next great character-based drama". High praise indeed! David Wiegand of the San Francisco Chronicle has promised "You won't be able to stop watching".

We shall see.

Ray Donovan will air on 30th June 2013.
