Liam Hemsworth has been cast as the love interest of Jennifer Lawrence's character in the highly anticipated new movie 'The Hunger Games', reports the Los Angeles Times.
Lionsgate have announced that Hemsworth will take on the role of 'Gale Hawthorne', the childhood friend of Katniss Everdeen. 'The Kids Are All Right' star Josh Hutcherson has also been cast in the movie and will play 'Peeta Mellark'. The announcement completes the casting of the three lead roles in the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' best-selling series. There had been much speculation as to who would land the coveted parts and 'True Grit' star Hailee Steinfeld was heavily favoured to land the role 'Katniss' before the shock casting of 20-year-old Lawrence. The film, which is to be directed by Gary Ross, will be set in a United States that has collapsed and been replaced by a national named 'Panem'. When Katniss' younger sister is randomly selected to participate in a deadly televised event named 'The Hunger Games', the female protagonist volunteers to take her place.
Liam Hemsworth, who has appeared in only three movies to date, is perhaps better known for his brief romance with the singer MILEY CYRUS.
