Leslie Nielsen Honoured By School

Legendary comic actor Leslie Nielsen has had a school named after him in his Canadian hometown.

The NAKED GUN star appeared in Edmonton, Alberta, on Tuesday (30SEP03) for the dedication of the LESLIE NIELSEN SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS at GRANT MacEWAN COLLEGE.

Nielsen says, "This is a great, great honour. Edmonton is the city where I grew up. This dedication acknowledges something I have always felt - that Edmonton truly is my home."

Speaking before the gathered crowd, thrice-divorced Nielsen added he was "flabbergasted" when he found out the college wanted to use his name.

Nielsen, 77, first had a serious acting career, appearing in such films as THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, before spoofing his own acting style in 1980's AIRPLANE!
