Leonardo Dicaprio with a host of other stars including Russell Crowe helped to open The Star casino in Sydney last night (15.11.2011)

DiCaprio was a last minute guest and showed up to the event wearing jeans, a t-shirt and baseball cap. Drinking only water the Hollywood star socialised and according to Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph, was described by a fellow guest as "an incredibly charismatic man and I liken him to a young Laurence Olivier." The invitation only event was hosted by casino owner Larry Mullins who was re-launching his venue after a lengthy refurbishment, Don Perignon champagne was served to the 250 VIP guest list as they sat down to a six-course meal. Australian star Olivia Newton-John was also in attendance and was thrilled with the casino saying "I feel like I'm in Vegas in the good way. I don't like to gamble but I'm willing to put a bet on this place." DiCaprio is currently in Sydney to film new movie, The Great Gatsby, a new adaptation of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel.

Born in Los Angeles, the 36-year-old actor is currently the highest earning actor in Hollywood, however, his career started appearing in a series of adverts and educational films. He reached the A-list after appearing in 1997 blockbuster Titanic and has since starred in The Departed, The Aviator, Inception and is currently filming a biopic about former FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover.
