The Pink Panther Strikes Again Review

Very Good
More absurdity in this fourth Sellers-as-Clouseau flick, arguably the most ridiculous in the series as his former boss (Herbert Lom) has been finally driven insane, so much so that he orders a hitman to off the bumbling inspector. And not just one hitman, 20 of them -- including Omar Sharif in a cameo -- anything to be rid of the menace of Clouseau. There's also a doomsday machine/end of the world ransom plot (later re-spoofed in the Austin Powers series), but this is of course all just the backdrop for Sellers to do his thing.

2001: A Space Odyssey Review

Essential
It could be the greatest freak-out of all time. Stanley Kubrick's masterful 2001 is a smorgasbord of sight and sound, and its special effects are indistinguishable from reality, despite an age of over 30 years. Incredible and powerfully symbolic, the subject of many a thesis thanks to its conflicted computer, the HAL 9000. The direction, the score, and the script (written simultaneously while Arthur C. Clarke also worked on his novel) are all fantastic ("Also Sprach Zaruthstra" will never be usable to anyone else, every again) -- only the cast would go on to do relatively little in later years.

A masterwork of cinema that never loses its haunting power even after dozens of viewings.

Britannia Hospital Review

OK
It's hard to imagine a more scattered and absurd film, and Britannia Hospital must be a lot of fun if your mood has been chemically altered. Before the day is up at the kooky Britannia Hospital, there will be a mad scientist who not only creates a synthetic, talking brain but also hacks up Malcolm McDowell with a meat cleaver, there'll be protests, a labor strike, and the Queen of England will be on hand to witness it all. Crazy, and pretty much nonsense in the end. Check out The Kingdom TV series for a similar story done with more flair.
