Revitalised singer Leo Sayer claims he lost all of his money following a string of hits in the 1970s and 1980s, because dyslexia made it impossible for him to keep track of royalties.
The 55-year-old, real name GERARD HUGH SAYER, topped charts on both sides of the Atlantic with YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE DANCING and his recently remixed song THUNDER IN MY HEART is number one in the UK.
He says, "I couldn't count the change in my pocket, let alone how much money I was making.
"I lost all my money. I went broke because I couldn't count my royalties.
"I couldn't do the numbers. I lost hundreds of thousands of pounds."
Sayer also suffered from depression, which he traces back to his painful childhood.
He adds, "My father held my head under water to force me to swim and I nearly suffocated.
"I was beaten up. I was totally dyslexic. I had a nervous breakdown.
"But I trained my brain to take on the creative ideas I had. I came through."
