It's an exciting day for 'Game Of Thrones' fans because HBO have just unveiled some new images from the upcoming season 6 which have already got the cogs in our minds working. They don't really confirm an awful lot about what to expect from the next season, but it certainly teases a few ideas.

Bran Stark is back and accompanied by the Three-Eyed Raven

First of all it has to be said that there are no new images of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) since that ambiguous blood-stained face picture, but there are more of his younger brother Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) who we haven't seen for a whole season, not since the Season 4 finale 'The Children'. He looks like his standing up too, contrary to what he was told by the Three-Eyed Raven that he wouldn't be able to walk again and that he'd only be able to fly. He's actually accompanied by the Three-Eyed Raven too, played by new actor Max von Sydow.

Everything is out in the open on this week’s episode of Game of Thrones. Do we even need to say this anymore? Spoilers ahead. So many spoilers. The show has been building up to Tyrion’s trial since the Purple Wedding and this episode did not disappoint. Tyrion was steadfast as witness after witness testified against him. Cercei, a mother scorned, was particularly vicious. Even Varys gives witness against the youngest Lannister sibling.

Tyrion Lannister is 1000% done with you, Westeros.

Tyrion, of course, answers the accusations with abundant quantities of sass, matched only by Oberyn Martell, who looks like he could not care less about the trial. Which, given that all he wants is the Lannisters wiped from the face of the earth, isn’t that hard to believe. But sass won’t save the Imp, whom everybody wants to get rid of now – everybody except Jaime that is. With Tyrion’s life in peril, Jaime makes a deal with Father of the Year Tywin – let lil’ bro off the hook and Jaime will give up his King’s Guard vow of celibacy and move somewhere with a nice, unrelated to him noblewoman and make pretty golden-haired babies. It’s a pretty drastic step for Jaime – not only because he will have to move away from Cercei, but also because the new and improved Jaime Lannister is apparently really into keeping his vows.

It’s been two days since Game of Thrones, so anyone not caught up should be responsible for steering clear of spoilers. That said, if you aren’t caught up on Season 4, Episode 2, The Lion and the Rose, leave now or risk getting spoiled. Seriously. So many spoilers below.

The deplorable king Joffrey is actually a pretty great guy in real life, say his co-stars.

Ok, now that that’s taken care of, let’s talk weddings. There was another one happening on GoT this week, which, in this show, is enough to make you cringe in fear. Remember the last one? Of course you do. But there’s some time until the Purple Wedding and the first thing we see is The Bastard of Bolton, out for a spot of hunting. Well, if you call letting a bunch of dogs loose on a young woman “hunting” that is (hopefully you don’t, because that surely indicates some severe mental disorder). Any way, the unnamed young woman, whom Ramsay Snow apparently kidnapped, was dead within the first five minutes. It was that kind of episode. What exactly was the purpose of that? To remind us that Ramsay is a sadistic creep maybe? We did see Theo Greyjoy on the sidelines, obviously broken and on the edge of sanity. So there’s that.

Today is the day. After months of eye-popping, but low on story trailers, Noam Muro’s 300: Rise of an Empire hits theaters today. It was written by Zack Snyder, so regardless of which side of the Snyder divide moviegoers stand on, it’s fairly obvious what to expect from this film. Even so, early reviews are controversial at best.

300: Rise of an Empire is little more than stylish, say critics.

Here’s the quick rundown. As much as some critics have loved the stylish, gory look of Rise,  in terms of substance it mostly fails to impress. The LA Times’ Betsy Sharkey puts it thusly: “As much performance art as movie, 300: Rise of an Empire unfolds as beautiful, bloody, slow-motion machismo.” While it lacks some of the freshness of the 2006 original, she writes, Rise’s impact is helped by “passionate music perfectly underscoring this latest round of the "beautiful death" the ancient Greeks were so poetic about.”

300: Rise Of An Empire isn't a sequel, nor is it a prequel to Zack Snyder's blood and guts-fest 300, but it is still very much from the same story-line as the film adaption of Frank Miller's Spartan comic book. The newly released trailer gives us our first glimpse of the movie and it looks as though the follow on to 2007's 300 will be even more epic and over-blown as the first.

Seven years after the original 300 caused students to yell “THIS. IS. SPARTA!!!” at every beer-fueled rager for months on end, we get the trailer for the sequel – that’s not really a sequel – 300: Rise of an Empire. The film has new direction – Noam Murro, taking over from Man of Steel’s Zack Snyder – and a whole new focus and as Murro has pointed out, this will not be a sequel per se – in. It will be more of a prequel and sequel at the same time in terms of the timing, the events take place before, during and after the events of 300. Instead, this new installment will shift its focus. Based on the graphic novel Xerxes by Frank Miller, the film will open with Greek general Themistocles getting ready to battle an invading army of Persians under the mortal-turned-god, Xerxes.

Right on the heels of “Man of Steel’s” release, the trailer for director Zach Snyder’s new movie has been released. “300: Rise of an Empire” is set to premiere on July 3 2014. Is this a sequel to 300? No! THIS. IS. SPARTA. Apologies, we couldn’t help ourselves. Anyway, this really won’t be a sequel. MTV News quotes Noam Murro – the film’s director, who is a newcomer to the franchise - as saying that this film takes place before, during and after the events of the last one – it just has a much broader scope.

This week on Game of Thrones, viewers were let off easy for the finale – the producers probably realised that we are all still recovering from last week’s episode and the Red Wedding. But there were still a number of plot twists (beware of spoilers ahead.) After witnessing the brutal murders of some of her last remaining family members, Arya Stark got some measure of revenge by stabbing one of Walder Fray’s soldiers, as her captor-turned-companion Sandor "The Hound" Clegane took care of the soldier’s comrades. Obviously, the violence will keep getting worse from here on, but after last week’s episode, Thrones fans seem to be able to stomach anything.

Then we had Jaime Lannister, finally back at King’s Landing and reunited with his twin sister Cersei, while Jon Snow had a reunion of another kind, returning to the night’s watch, after escaping the wrath of his scorned lover, wildling Ygritte. On two opposite sides of the GoT universe, two very different characters continued their journeys. While Bran walked on towards his destination north of the wall – a journey, which still seems rather inexplicable, Daenerys Targeryen continued to build her power through the love of her people and finally freed the slaves of Yunkai. While some rise and others fall, as usual in the game of thrones (which you win or you die, as Robb Stark and co. reminded us last week) something altogether darker and more sinister is brewing north of the wall – the White Walkers and their army of undead.

Of course, we got the occasional quip from Tyrion Lannister (the ever entertaining Peter Dinklage) to lighten the mood, but after recent events, let’s just say that there’s a whole lot of lightening to do.

On Friday (June 7), The Purge will hit cinemas and let audiences experience 90 minutes of a utopian world where, one night a year, the emergency services are suspended and chaos rules supreme. Whilst this sounds like a promising prospect - not in reality, but to watch - critics have warned that the film is not as worthwhile as it seems at first glance, and in film where the idea that a utopia can become just the opposite in a few short hours is proposed, it is never portrayed sufficiently.

Staring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey and written/directed by James DeMonaco (Assault on Precinct 13), the film is set in a time when unemployment is at 1% and crime rates are the lowest they've ever been in the US, yet people are locking up their doors and boarding the window as the annual 'Purge' is about to occur; a 12-hour period when all crime is legal and society turns it's back on law and order. During this particular 'Purge,' Hawke and Headey's house is visited by a stranger who seeks sanctity, which is reluctantly given, only for a group of armed hoodlums to come to the house with a proposition that will test their morals; give them the guest and they'll leave.

If you haven't already been tantalised by the creepy trailer that has been circulating - no, this is not a new fad diet - The Purge is the name of newly released horrific thriller from Staten Island (2009) director James DeMonaco thriller, starring Ethan Hawke (Sinister, Gattaca) and Lena Headey (300, Game Of Thrones).

We're in 2022 USA and the not-so-far future is rather different from the one we currently inhabit: unemployment and crime rates have hit an impossible all-time low. Great news, right? Well think again. These rates are kept low by the yearly government-authorized 'Purge': 12 hours of criminal free-for-all where all crimes, including murder, are permitted and all emergency services are suspended. The plot centres on the affluent Sandin family who live in a charming suburban neighbourhood.

Just like they do every year, the family batten down the hatches on the eve of The Purge and wait out the night as slaughter and destruction rages through the nation. However, a bloodied man begging to be saved appears outside the house and is granted entry by sympathetic young son Charlie (Max Burkholder) despite the ruling of his parents. The man is pursued to the house by a pack of masked and murderous strangers who give the family an ultimatum: hand over their 'purge-target' or they'll break in and kill everyone.

Lena Headey, who worked with Fassbender on 300, is looking like one of the favourites for the role, with the Brit-actress more than proving her worth as a domineering Queen in the HBO series Game of Thrones. It is believed that the movie's executives have a long-list of potential suitors for the role, with at least one big name Hollywood star among those in contention for the sought-after role.

Neither a sequel nor a prequel, 300: Rise of an Empire is set at the same time as the original movie 300 but this time, the action takes place on the sea. Once more, the stylized look of the movie takes its cue from the graphic novel by Frank Miller, USA Today reports, but the ocean setting allows for a vaster landscape in which the action can take place. The movie’s director Noam Murro explains that the new movie “is tied visually to the original,” but adds “there is a whole different choreography of fighting and war.”

In 300:Rise of An Empire, the Greek general Themistokles (played by Sullivan Stapleton) and his “common-man troops” fight the Persian army out at sea. Murro explains that the action takes place over a number of locations: “The opportunities for the six distinct battles are even greater with different locations and tactics.” The ‘few against the many’ arc is still present though, as it was in the first 300 movie. “It's hundreds vs. hundreds of thousands. It's about taking on the mightiest power of all with wisdom and tactics.” The mightiest army, in this case is led by Eva Green’s Artemesia, second-in-command to the mortal turned god leader Xerxes. “She does most of Xerxes' dirty work in this film. She's seeking revenge, and she does it well," Stapleton explains. "She's a force to be reckoned with."  

Also starring Games of Thrones actress Lena Headey and Rodrigo Santoro, the movie is due to open on August 2, 2013.

Lena Headey plays an evil queen in Game Of Thrones, the popular fantasy drama on HBO/Sky Atlantic. But you’d be mistaken for thinking an actress doesn’t face financial problems, because this one does.

It’s not all Hollywood mansions, eating at fancy restaurants and lounging on a Caribbean beach, not for Headey anyway. In documents seized by TMZ, her husband Peter Loughran's demands for half of their $46,000 tax refund from 2011. She says she needs $6,000 from that refund as soon as possible, as she’s barely managing to get by, and has a 2-year-old son to look after. She also admitted to having less than $5 in her account. The Huffington Post gang got together on Huff Post live, and basically all agreed to not believing her in a jokey, but simultaneously serious way. One thing’s for sure though, she must have a lot of rich buddies who can lend her a hand from time to time, so as far as the sob-story goes, we’re not buying it. But we’re happy to believe she has a measly $5 in her account.

Actress Lena Headey, who plays Queen Cersei in Game of Thrones has revealed that she is stone broke and relying on a legal settlement with her estranged husband to free her from her financial shackles. TMZ obtained copies of legal documents filed by Headley in response to Peter Loughran’s demands for half of their 2011 tax refund for $46,000.

Lena claims that she has “less than $5 in her bank account," according to the TMZ report. She filed for divorce from Peter last year and now claims that she desperately needs some of the tax refund to cover her living costs, as she’s living off credit and barely has enough to get by and care for their 2 year-old son. Lena’s asking for $6,000 of the funds and has suggested that Peter be allowed the same, for now. She has also asked that the rest of the money be placed in a two-signature blocked bank account, until a decision has been made on how to split the funds.

This is shocking news from one of the most popular characters on a hugely successful TV show and it doesn’t look for her financial prospects, right now, even if she does claim to be expecting some acting wages to be coming through any time soon. Peter’s initial request for half of the cash was turned down by the courts, as was Lena’s own suggestion of how to split the money. So, no decision made so far, then.

Judge Dredd is back! Not literally, but back in cinemas at least after nearly 20 years since Sylvester Stallone graced the screen with his portrayal of the futuristic super cop. The reboot of the franchise (now in 3D!) follows Dredd, who still serves as judge, jury and executioner, as he and a trainee cop team up against a sizeable chunk of the criminal world in a bid to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO. A heavily covered up Karl Urban takes on the lead role with Olivia Thirlby as his young sidekick and Lena Headey as the overseer of a huge criminal empire.

The film currently lies with a 77% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes and so far has proved to be a surprise hit with some critics, whilst others have been a little less forgiving to the ultra-violent depiction of the future. Both the New York Times and Los Angeles Times have given the film a thorough drubbing, both stating that the film is chock full of lousy ideas and “disposable character” as well as “clunk-headed action.”

However not all have been so harsh, with the majority of reviews applauding the visuals and the gritty style the film was made in. One reviewer for the Daily Telegraph summed the film up well and frank enough, saying, “It's really quite good.” The film is in cinemas now.
