The highly anticipated seventh season of ‘American Horror Story’ has whetted the appetite of fans even further by revealing another high-profile cast addition, in the shape of ‘Girls’ creator Lena Dunham.

The FX horror anthology series revealed that 31 year old Dunham would be joining the already star-studded cast in a tweet via ‘AHS’ showrunner Ryan Murphy on Wednesday evening (July 19th).

“Thrilled that my talented friend Lena Dunham is joining the AMERICAN HORROR STORY family,” he wrote. “Always wanted to work together, and now we r!”

As of the time of writing, no casting details have been revealed in order to even guess at what role Dunham might have – indeed, the overall theme for the upcoming seventh season hasn’t yet been confirmed.

However, Murphy has previously hinted that it might take on, or be inspired by, the 2016 presidential elections, and the formal title is set to be revealed later this week.

He told Andy Cohen earlier this year that the seventh series “is going to be about the election that we just went through so I think that will be interesting for a lot of people.”

Murphy later told The Hollywood Reporter: “What I’m interested in doing is not just the obvious, single-minded point of view but rather express all sides of that equation. What needs to happen in our country now is for people to listen to each other — we may not always agree with each other and we may be horrified by what the other side is doing but we have to move toward understanding.”

Dunham, who wrapped up 'Girls' after six seasons earlier this year, joins new cast arrivals Billy Eichner and Billie Lourd (who worked with Murphy on ‘Scream Queens’) and ‘AHS’ veterans Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters. Other guest stars who have previously held down roles in the anthology have been Lady Gaga – who was in seasons five and six – and Jessica Lange.
