Filmmaker Lee Daniels is set to bring hit Broadway play ANNA IN THE TROPICS to the big screen in a new movie adaptation.
The Oscar-nominated Precious director has signed up to develop a screenplay based on Nilo Cruz's critically-acclaimed production, which tells the story of Cuban immigrants working in cigar factories in 19th Century Florida.
Daniels will work with playwright Cruz to transform the story into a feature film, according to Variety.
Anna in the Tropics won a Pulitzer Prize in 2003 and later garnered two Tony Award nominations.
