The scandal surrounding Leann Rimes' alleged affair with married co-star Eddie Cibrian boosted ratings for their TV movie NORTHERN LIGHTS on Saturday night (21Mar09) - the romantic drama has become U.S. network Lifetime's most-watched film this year (09).
Infidelity rumours swirled around Rimes and Cibrian last week (ends20Mar09) after leaked security camera footage caught the couple enjoying an intimate dinner together in California.
The video, obtained by Us Weekly magazine, appeared to show Cibrian and Rimes holding hands and kissing at the table.
Both stars dismissed reports they were cheating on their partners.
The alleged scandal wasn't all bad; the headline-grabbing story did wonders for the stars' new film - an estimated 4.5 million American viewers tuned in to watch Northern Lights.
The ratings boost comes as Rimes attempts to kill rumours her seven-year marriage to dancer husband Dean Sheremet is in trouble - the couple put on a public display of affection when they were spotted by paparazzi in Los Angeles on Monday (23Mar09).
