A controversial film about Canada's most notorious serial killer has been dropped from this year's (05) Montreal World Film Festival in Canada, after pressure from sponsors.
The JOEL BENDER film stars THAT '70S SHOW beauty Laura Prepon as Ontario murderer KARLA HOMOLKA, who with her husband PAUL BERNARDO, was responsible for the kidnap, sexual abuse and murder of three schoolgirls in the early 1990s.
The controversial drama, which is due for release in the US in October (05), was expected to have its world premiere at the 11-day festival (26AUG-05SEP05) in the French Canadian city.
A statement from the festival reads, "In light of the reaction to its proposed showing of the film Karla, and the discomfort expressed by clients of its sponsors, MWFF organisers have decided against presenting the film."
TIM DANSON, a lawyer for the families of victims LESLIE MAHAFFY, KRISTEN FRENCH and Homolka's sister TAMMY, has sought an legal injunction against the film's screening.
Homolka was recently released from a Quebec jail after serving 12 years for manslaughter as part of a plea-bargain.04/08/2005 14:12
