Coroner Rules B.b. King Died Of Natural Causes

Las Vegas Bb King

The 89-year-old music icon passed away in May (15) at his home in Sin City after suffering a series of strokes, but shortly after, two of his daughters, Patty King and Karen Williams, called for a police investigation over their father's death.

The siblings alleged he was deliberately poisoned by his longtime manager LaVerne Toney, and his personal assistant, Myron Johnson, but a lawyer for Toney and Johnson slammed the accusations, calling the claims defamatory and libellous.

Nearly two months later, Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg's autopsy tests were made public on Monday (13Jul15), establishing that the cause of King's death was Alzheimer's disease with other physical conditions including coronary disease, heart failure and the effects of Type 2 diabetes.

Las Vegas Bb King

A lawyer for Patty King, Karen Williams, Rita Washington and Barbara Winfree submitted documents in probate court in Las Vegas, Nevada on Tuesday (09Jun15), suggesting there is another will left behind by their father, who in his will dated in 2007, named his longtime business manager LaVerne Toney, as the sole executor of the estate.

Another daughter, Riletta Mitchell, was listed second, but she died in September (14).

The music legend's daughters have been at odds with Toney and another personal aide, Myron Johnson, for months, alleging Toney misappropriated funds and mistreated him prior to his death, and also claiming King had been poisoned.

Time Warner Cfo Warns Cablers: Expect A Big Fee Hike

HBO CBS Las Vegas

Time Warner CFO John Martin has served notice to cable operators that he intends to negotiate aggressively with them beginning this year when affiliate deals start to expire. By 2016, he observed, virtually all contracts for the company's cable networks, including the Turner Broadcasting channels and HBO, as well as the CW broadcast network, which it owns jointly with CBS, are due to expire and Martin told a media conference in Las Vegas on Monday that he plans to demand double-digit increases when they do. Martin dismissed recent studies indicating that viewers are watching less TV and more Internet video. A lot of the [advertising] growth in the Internet is due to better and more high-profile video moving online, he said. Netflix, he maintained, represented virtually no threat, Martin maintained, noting that it accounted for just 3 percent of all viewing. It's not big enough to have a meaningful impact, he remarked. Besides, he noted, Time Warner's Warner Bros. TV unit has just concluded a deal with Netflix for many of the serialized TV dramas it produces. In addition, the company also owns Flixter, a video site that it intends to grow in 2013, he said, particularly with movies and TV shows linked to the UltraViolet digital locker.

The "Tv Of The Future" Is A Month Away

Las Vegas

South Korean consumer electronics giant LG Electronics said that it will begin accepting pre-orders on Thursday for its $10,000 super-high-definition OLED TV models and begin deliveries next month. The 55-inch WRGB OLED TV models will initially be available at 1,400 LG retail stores in South Korea. "As the first and only company to announce availability of the next-generation TV technology, LG is prepared to ramp up quickly to take the lead in the OLED segment, the company said in a statement. A prototype of the unit received the Best of Show award at last year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Havis Kwon, head of LG's Home Entertainment Company, said that the OLED screens represent the same sort of transformational moment" that the arrival of color TV did 60 years ago. When high definition TV was first introduced 15 years ago, the public's reaction was 'wow!' but when customers see our razor-thin OLED TV for the first time, they're left speechless, Kwon said. That's a clear indicator as any that OLED TV is much more than just an incremental improvement to current television technology.
