In this somewhat sanctimonious and cynical world in which we live, where everything is analysed to the Nth degree and there is more time spent looking at flaws and faults than achievement and artistry, it would be quite easy to be derisory about Lana Del Rey (many of her detractors already have been). I think some are happier just to pick holes whilst others are just missing the point and don't get it. Either way they are losing out.
Lana Del Rey is unique. Her whole image, persona, style, song writing and delivery is unparalleled in contemporary music. Whether you think it's conceptualised or cliched doesn't really matter to me because the end result is such sublime music. She may be mocked and mimicked in equal measure but no one does what she does so well; there is no one who can touch her as a torch song singer.
Lana Del Rey is like a David Lynch dream realised. She flirts with the seedy, sleazy and subversive but sells the seductive, sultry chanteuse so well. Lana lives in a world between twilight and dusk where lamp light and shadows make for a sense of foreboding unease. She's a guilty pleasure that resides in a perversely attractive dimly lit underworld. On her fourth album, 'Honeymoon', Lana barely sets foot into daylight, she inhabits a world of cocktail dresses and kitten heels, double-breasted wide pinstriped suits and brogues, flock wallpaper, velvet and velour and you have to say she's in her element.

The Pink Floyd guitarist has scored his second solo number one album in the UK.
Dave Gilmour has topped this week’s UK album chart, beating Lana Del Rey to the number one spot. Gilmour previously landed at number one just 10 months ago with band Pink Floyd’s latest release The Endless River.
Lana Del Rey has missed out on the top spot of the UK album chart.
Rattle That Lock gives Gilmour his second chart topper as a solo artist, following 2006’s On An Island. Speaking to OfficialCharts.com Gilmour said, "It's thrilling to get a Number 1 album, we all want to hit the top spot, however long we've been at it, I'm delighted.”

His name will be doubtlessly familiar to those fans of the rap world, having began his career in hip hop, but now he's set to make waves as a songwriter, enlisting some of the greatest vocalists and performers to work with him on his first release; an impressive feat for someone who started out working in a home studio in New York before dropping out of school. Luckily, it wasn't long before his work was picked up by Proof from D-12, who introduced him to Eminem, and the rest is history. He won a Grammy after producing Eminem's album 'Recovery', went on to discover Kid Cudi and worked with some of the world's greatest rappers including Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg to name but a few.

The singer has tried to clarify his involvement in the controversial video which leaked online last month.
Last month a controversial NSFW video leaked online, directed by Eli Roth, which depicted singer Lana Del Rey being raped. The footage was said to have been shot for a Marilyn Manson music video, however the singer’s camp quickly released a statement denying his involvement. Now Manson has finally spoken out about the video and the exact nature of his involvement.
Marilyn Manson has spoken for the first time about the controversial Lana Del Rey video
Back when the video leaked online in November, a statement from Manson’s camp read, “"Manson did not direct this, shoot it, nor was it for a Marilyn Manson video or outtake footage made by him or to be used by him with his music.” Adding, “It must be a fan video splicing up old Manson video footage with someone else's Lana Del Rey footage.”

A third album is in the pipeline already, though no confirmed release date is on the horizon as yet.
Surprising news from the world of pop: Lana Del Rey is apparently already working on her third album, despite only releasing a record less than six months ago.
Speaking in a special edition of Galore magazine, and being interviewed by her sister Chuck Grant, the 29 year old singer was asked whether she was working on anything new and she responded: “Yeah, I just wrote two songs for Tim Burton and Harvey Weinstein’s film called Big Eyes and I’m working on a new record.”

Lana Del Rey fans should be getting very excited! The 29-year-old singer recently announced the tour dates for her upcoming Endless Summer first leg in 2015, and surprisingly some of which will include Courtney Love as the opening act.

The lyric was a pretty low blow, but Iggy didn't take it lying down.
It’s kind of a given in showbiz that fading celebs will do pretty much anything to inspire shock, awe and the occasional dollar flying their way. Enter Eminem and his recent string of rather violent, offensively unfunny lyrics directed at his fellow musicians of the female variety. After Lana Del Rey, Aussie rapper Iggy Azalea was the latest to come under fire, with Shady’s latest leaked track, Vegas, featuring the following disturbing lyrics (trigger warning applies): Put that shit away Iggy/ You don't wanna blow that rape whistle on me.
I know he has an album to promote, but was that really necessary?
Marilyn Manson has denied involvement in the video, despite Eli Roth telling Larry King that he made a controversial video with the musician and Lana Del Rey.
Marilyn Manson says he has nothing to do with a controversial video in which filmmaker Eli Roth simulates raping the singer Lana Del Rey. The clip was removed from YouTube on Thursday (November 20) following a copyright claim from Essential Music, who are linked to Manson's label Cooking Vinyl.
The clip, Sturmgruppe, also contained footage from two of Manson's music videos, spliced with horror movie style shots of a party with the word "rape" scrawled on the wall. The clip concludes with the attack on a woman who appears to be Del Rey.

The rapper was promoting his new compilation ‘Shady XV’.
Eminem has threatened to punch singer Lana Del Rey in the face twice, during a new freestyle rap video posted on Youtube. The video was released to promote the rapper’s new compilation, Shady XV, which celebrates the 15th anniversary of his ‘Shady Records’ label.
In the video the 42 year old rapper also references Ray Rice, the NFL footballer who was suspended in September after a video emerged of him assaulting his fiancee.

Lorde help us all.
Ella Yelich-O’Connor, whom you may know better as Lorde, is 17 years old, an outspoken feminist and took the music industry by storm in 2013. It’s hard to think of anyone better suited to curate the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I. Lionsgate just made the announcement yesterday, so it’s time to get hella excited.
We can totally see Lorde in heroine mode, fighting for the districts, by the way.
We can expect Lorde to assemble a full-on HBIC soundtrack – Marina and the Diamonds, some of her contemporary inspirations like Lana Del Rey, Animal Collective, Kanye West, Yeasayer and others, who are all on the list of likely contributors as far as we’re concerned. Lorde’s friend and fellow feminist Taylor Swift created the lead single for the first Hunger Games soundtrack with The Civil Wars, so we’d be surprised, if she didn’t at least contribute a chorus here and there.
Lana Del Rey is used to dealing with hate by now, but wanted to set the record straight on this one thing.
Lana Del Rey is no stranger to vicious rumours, but she definitely did not sleep her way to the top. And she’s actually quite upset about that, the Ultraviolence songstress shared in an interview recently. Despite the fact that her new album contains a song called F****d My Way To The Top, it was made just for a laugh, apparently. Del Rey has given plenty of uber-serious (and some outright worrying) interviews in the past. This was not one of them.
Lana Del Rey was not an overnight success.
"You know, I have slept with a lot of guys in the industry, but none of them helped me get my record deals," the 29-year-old told Complex magazine for its August/September issue.

It's been a big week in the life of Sam Smith.
Besides a promising musician, Sam Smith’s debut record has also shown him to be a savvy businessman – but not enough. In an effort to boost US sales and get the album to Number 1 on the Billboard 200, Smith’s management kept In The Lonely Hour off Spotify. The album did well, selling 166,000 copies in its first week, but ultimately fell short of Lana Del Rey’s sophomore effort Ultraviolence. The sultry pop record sold 182,000 units for Capitol Records, making it the biggest (bigger) debut of Lana’s career.
Despite Smith's Spotify gamble, this round went to Lana.
Still, it wasn’t a bad week for Smith. Besides the respectable debut of In The Lonely Hour, the singer-songwriter also discovered a lost connection recently. The saga of Smith’s relation to Lily Allen and her brother, Game of Thrones actor Alfie Allen unfolded over Twitter, when Smith tweeted at the Sheezus hitmaker that, according to his parents, they were third cousins. To his surprise, Lily quickly responded, confirming his suspicion.

The 28 year-old singer opens up about reputation of being stuck in constant misery, "I find that most people I meet figure I kind of want to kill myself."
Undoubtedly, one common aspect of Lana Del Rey's music is the constant element of sadness.
And with songs like 'Born To Die' and 'Summertime Sadness,' many music lovers believe the 28 year-old singer purposely tries to portray that image.
But according to Lana, it isn't her with the issues, it is other people.
The American singer and her Scottish have called it quits
Lana Del Rey appears to be now back on the market after splitting from Barrie-James O’Neill, the singer’s boyfriend/rumoured fiancee. Whilst the split has probably been the cause of some summertime sadness for superstar Lana, what about poor Barrie? Despite dating the headlin-making Lana, Barrie managed to spend most of the couple’s three year relationship flying under the showbiz radar. So since it might be goodbye for good, just who is Barrie-James O’Neill?
A couple no more? Lana Del Rey and Barrie-James O'Neill
Before he starting dating Lana, Scottish Barrie-James O’Neill (who has very luscious hair and apparently goes by just Barrie) was the frontman of Kassidy, a folk-rock-indie band. He was first rumoured to be dating Lana in 2011 when the couple attended the Tartan Clef Awards together in November. The following February they then confirmed they were indeed an item, with Barrie telling The Sun he had “no idea” how he ended up bagging pop star Lana.

Lana Del Rey has claimed she was duped into answering leading questions about Kurt Cobain in a recent interview with a British newspaper.
Lana Del Rey has made amends with Frances Bean Cobain.
In a recent interview with the Guardian, Del Rey discussed her musical idols including Amy Winehouse and Kurt Cobain. She reportedly said "I wish I was dead already," a remark which prompted Cobain to point out her own personal tragedy. Cobain was less than two years old when her father Kurt died at the age of 27.
Lana Del Rey has announced her split from her boyfriend of nearly three years, former Kassidy band member Barrie James O'Neill. Del Rey has also been under fire (again) for her reported comments on dying young in a recent interview.
It's not been a good week for Lana Del Rey. The Ultraviolence artist has separated from Scottish singer Barrie James O'Neill and has been seriously chastised by Frances Bean Cobain owing to Del Rey's comments about her father's death.
Barrie James O'Neill and Lana Del Rey have split after nearly three years together.
Del Rey announced her separation from O'Neill in a recent interview with Switzerland's 20 Minuten magazine, published on Monday (23rd June). Responding to a question about the possibility of an engagement, 28-year-old Del Rey said "We are currently not together." She continued to vaguely explain the reasons behind their split which apparently result from O'Neill's unspecified issues. She said "He is a wonderful person. But there are some things which he has to deal with. I will not explain in detail. This was hard on our relationship, I no longer felt free."

Kurt Cobain's daughter admonishes Del Rey for morbid comments made in a recent interview.
Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, has lashed out at pop star Lana Del Rey over quotes printed in a recent interview with The Guardian in which Del Rey expresses a desire to be dead.
In a conversation discussing Lana's heroes, including Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse, who happen to be dead, Lana revealed her disenchantment with fame and attraction to death. "I wish I was dead already," she said, adding "I don't want to have to keep doing this. But I am."
On Sunday, Frances Bean, who lost her father to suicide at a young age, called out Del Rey in a series of strong, but not overly harsh, tweets. "The death of young musicians isn't something to romanticize," she warned.
