Lou Diamond Phillips Reprises Role For The King & I In Australia

La Bamba star Lou Diamond Phillips is to make his Australian stage debut in the royal role that helped launch his theatre career almost 20 years ago.

The actor will replace Jason Scott Lee in the Melbourne production of The King & I.

A torn calf muscle has forced Lee to withdraw from the show.

Phillips Lands Reality Jungle Challenge

La Bamba star Lou Diamond Phillips has joined the jungle-bound stars competing in upcoming U.S. TV reality show I'm a celebrity... GET ME OUT OF HERE!


The actor will do battle with fashion queen Janice DICkinson, newly-married reality TV couple Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, and fellow movie star Stephen Baldwin when the quirky show begins on 1 June (09).


A spokesman for the show says, "This will be Lou Diamond Phillips' first venture into reality TV... But, with his roles in action films such as Young Guns and his role on 24, Phillips should be ready for the endurance challenges that will come before him on the show."

La Bamba hitmakers Los Lobos are raising funds for their old high school's sports auditorium, after the old one went up in smoke.
The sports hall at Garfield High School in Los Angeles was destroyed by fire in May (07).
Los Lobos handed over cash from their concert at the Universal Ampitheater in Los Angeles on Sunday night (14Oct06) to help the fundraising efforts.

La Bamba star Lou Diamond Phillips is set for a royal role after signing on to play King Arthur in a new national US tour of medieval musical Camelot.
The Lerner and Loewe stageshow will begin a new trek across America with dates in Los Angeles this September (07).
Phillips replaces previously announced star, Michael York, who will be departing the national tour just prior to the Los Angeles engagement.
The actor wowed Broadway in 1996 with his award-winning star turn in The King + I.

Actor Lou Diamond Phillips has pleaded no contest to charges that he beat his girlfriend up during an altercation in August (06).
Police raced to the La Bamba star's Northridge, California home following reports Phillips was attacking his girlfriend YVONNE BOISMER. The authorities found the couple in the middle of a heated argument.
Following the actor's arrest, his spokesperson insisted the whole matter was "a misunderstanding", but now Phillips has accepted he brutalised his live-in lover.
He has been sentenced to a year of domestic violence counselling and 200 hours of community service. He was also placed on probation for three years.

Troubled actor Lou Diamond Phillips has received unlikely support as he fights to clear his name following a domestic disturbance charge - from his ex-wife.
The La Bamba star was arrested on 11 August (06) after police were called to his Northridge, California, home to break up an alleged fight with his live-in girlfriend YVONNE BOISMER.
And no one was more surprised than Phillips' ex-wife KELLY, who insists the reports linking her former husband to a violent attack must be wrong.
She says, "I don't know what happened, but I know it's not in Lou's nature to be abusive or violent. I'm totally surprised."
Phillips, 44, was released after spending 10 hours in custody and no charges have been pressed.
His publicist has already stated the incident was all part of a huge misunderstanding and now Phillips' pal CHASE MICHAELS, who was with the actor when the disturbance erupted, insists it was all a big fuss over nothing.
Michaels says, "Physical violence is not in Lou's character. He and Yvonne are back together."

LATEST: Actor Lou Diamond Phillips has been released from police custody after he was arrested for suspicion of domestic violence early yesterday (11AUG06).
Police called to the La Bamba star's home in Northridge, California discovered Phillips, 44, fighting with his live-in girlfriend.
His spokeswoman says, "There have been no charges pressed, it has been a misunderstanding."

Website TMZ.com reports police were called to the actor's home early this morning (11AUG06) and found Phillips and his live-in girlfriend in a heated argument.
Phillips was arrested and taken to the Devonshire police station, where he is currently being held on $50,000 (GBP27,800) bail.

The actor will play a fictional music legend called DEWEY COX in the spoof biopic WALK HARD.
He says, "My character is an amalgamation of a number of classic musician stories, tales of excess, highs and lows and bad behaviour."
