It was the end of the road for Jaleel White as Dancing With The Stars continued its relentless whittling down process. With the exit of Gavin Degraw a couple of weeks ago, it really meant that the calibre of star facing eviction from then on was going to be markedly high, and so it's proved with Gladys Knight leaving last week despite impressing earlier in the competition and now Jaleel White going, despite earning consistent plaudits from judges.
The blow for White was doubled with the knowledge that it wasn't even he who received the lowest points total on Monday night - that dubious accolade going to the far more consistently poor Melissa Gilbert, who has been flirting with the bottom two for several weeks now. Reuters reports that the actor was nevertheless magnanimous in defeat though, saying "I really only thought I'd last about three dances in this competition. I wanted to get three good dances off. That's what I told my mama."
Despite earlier reports in the competition suggesting that he'd been disrespectful to his professional partner Kym Johnson, White insisted that he'd had a great time with her and added "I've made incredible friends. The fans have been incredible." He'll now go back to being remembered as geeky child character Steve Urkel, probably for the rest of his days.
Jaleel White kicked up a fuss backstage at Dancing with the Stars last night (April 30, 2012), unhappy that he wasn't getting more praise from the judges. He and his dance partner Kym Johnson may have won the team tango but their individual dance failed to set the judges' worlds on fire. They ended the night with the second lowest score and will have to pray that they survive tonight's elimination.
Jaleel had plenty to say on the matter, telling E! News backstage "We didn't get any accolade for that. They just started playing the music like we were at the Oscars and they wanted to get us off the stage! I'm like, 'Hold on, hold on, we've been working on this team dance for a week! We don't get a hooray at the end or something?'" Jaleel insists that he's doing it for the fans, though and won't let the judges' lack of praise for all of his hard work get him down: "Ultimately (the fans are) what I do it for, that's why I was so pumped up for the team dance, which we won by the way."
One couple that definitely weren't suffering from a lack of praise was Maria Menounos and Derek Hough, who scored the first perfect 30 of the season. "It's really crazy, it hasn't even sunk in yet! It was just a really, really great night. First perfect score!" said Derek after the show. An emotional Maria told reporters "I think I might bawl my brains out after this. The rumba was one of my favorite dances because I felt like I was in a movie."
Jaleel White was reportedly involved in a serious bust-up with his Dancing With The Stars partner Kym Johnson during a rehearsal session on Friday (March 30, 2012). Kym's fellow professional Mark Ballas and the show's producers were forced to intervene, but what happened exactly?
According to US Weekly magazine, the Family Matters star, 35, "flipped out" after Johnson yelled "ouch" when he accidently stepped on her foot. White "got in her face" and criticized her for "acting like a baby", later dubbing her "an idiot". Johnson was reduced to tears and left the studio, while fellow competitor Donald Driver attempted to calm White down. As Mark Ballas joined the pair, Jaleel yelled at him, "You remind me of that annoying sitcom neighbor who gets into everyone's business!". A source who witnessed the confrontation explained, "The producers stepped in and broke it up before it got physical, but they were really going at it - right up in each other's faces". In past years, Johnson has maintained a solid relationship with her partner's throughout the competition, winning the show in season 12 with Hines Ward. Last year, she and David Arquette reached week seven.Despite the bust-up, White and Johnson survived Tuesday's elimination, with soap star Jack Wagner getting the boot.
Jaleel White has revealed to People magazine the truth behind his alleged row with his dance partner Kym Johnson. "It was completely exaggerated," said the 35 year-old actor, in response to claims that he had "erupted" into a tirade against Kym on Friday (March 30, 2012), ahead of last night's show. Reports at the time claimed that he had stood on Kym's foot and then lashed out at her, verbally, when he felt that she over-reacted to the incident.
