Petite pop singer Kylie Minogue missed out on a role in the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy - because she was too short.

The five foot, one inch (1.64 metres) star auditioned for the role of elf queen Galadriel, but director Peter Jackson deemed her too tiny for the role and instead cast fellow Antipodean CATE BLANCHETT - who is over seven inches (0.17 metres) taller than Minogue, at five foot eight and half inches (1.74 metres).

Hobbit actor Elijah Wood made the revelations on Irish presenter GRAHAM NORTON's chat show GRAHAM NORTON NY.

Wood reveals, "Kylie Minogue auditioned for Galadriel. I think Peter Jackson still has that on tape.

"She's probably a bit too short for an elf."

Minogue started her career on Australian show THE SULLIVANS, before hitting the big time in Neighbours. She quit the long-running soap opera in 1988 to launch her hugely successful music career.

Minogue's last film outing was playing the absinthe fairy in hit musical movie Moulin Rouge!
