Pop star Kylie Minogue forced herself to remain confident during her breast cancer surgery by pretending the operating room was her own personal stage.

The Australian singer was diagnosed with the disease in 2005, and Minogue knew she needed to find the courage to make it through the procedure by finding comfort in something familiar.

She tells Britain's Radio Times, "I was lying there on the trolley and I was suddenly taken by the fact that I was going into a 'theatre'. Medicine is so different from my business, but, in some ways, so similar.

"The whole gowning up, the masks, the build- up, the adrenalin, it all felt so familiar. I was under lights. 'Ah! There’s my spotlight.'"
