A guitar owned by late rocker Kurt Cobain has been sold for a staggering $117,500 (GBP65,000) at auction in America.

The right-handed 1960s MOSRITE GOSPEL MARK IV - the only one of its kind - was sold a the HERITAGE GALLERIES in Dallas, Texas.

Cobain, who committed suicide 10 years ago this month (5APR94), bought the instrument in 1990 and modified it so he could play it left-handed.

The customised guitar is the first of the Nirvana star's instruments to go on public sale since his death.

Other instruments at the auction include a piano owned by SIR Elton John, a WOODSTOCK FESTIVAL ticket autographed by Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon's 1975 GRAMMY Medal.
