Rock producer Butch Vig has played down rumours Kurt Cobain recorded several unheard solo tracks before his death, insisting the songs were only "in his head".
Hole star Eric Erlandson sparked rumours earlier this month (Apr12) that the late grunge icon had recorded an album's worth of new material before he died in 1994.
But Vig, who produced Nirvana's breakthrough album Nevermind, doubts any of the songs were committed to tape as Cobain was more concerned with his rocker wife Courtney Love's career in the months before his death.
Vig tells NME, "He was working on songs, but they were just in his head. He might have just played some songs to Eric... Around that time period he only wanted to talk about Courtney's album. I never heard any of his new songs."
