Actor Dax Shepard went "insane" for over a decade after being molested as a child.
The 41-year-old This Is Where I Leave You star revealed all about his dark past during a chat on Sirius XM radio programme The Jason Ellie Show, explaining he was touched inappropriately by an 18-year-old neighbour when he was just seven.
Shepard went on to admit that although he believed the event was "minimal" in comparison to other stories of sexual abuse, the impact was severe on his psyche.
"It took me 12 years to tell anyone," he shared, "and then, all that time, I was like... 'It's my fault', as generic as that is... and 'I'm gay, I must have manifested this because I'm secretly gay'. I had all these insane thoughts for 11 years or 12 years."

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard got serious about their Game of Thrones obsession by wearing superfan apparel at the premiere on Sunday night (10Apr16).
The married actors have made it no secret they are die-hard fans of the popular fantasy drama, and when they received a special invitation to attend the season six premiere at the Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, they played dress-up.
On the red carpet, Kristen and Dax wore matching gray tank tops, which had the phrase, "Stark in the streets, wildling in the sheets" - a reference to the series' top family and the show's mysterious wilderness community - printed on them. They also sported temporary tattoos on their chests with the series taglines "Winter is Coming" and "Ours is the Fury".
Kristen took to Instagram to post a photo of herself and her beau at the premiere, holding hands as they stood in front of a looming prop raven.
Kristen Bell constantly quizzed Peter Dinklage about secrets from his hit series Game of Thrones while co-starring in new comedy The Boss.
Comedienne Melissa MCCarthy, who co-wrote, produced and starred in the film, which is directed by her husband Ben Falcone, reveals she was star-struck meeting the diminutive actor, and she and Kristen risked getting on Peter's nerves by repeatedly performing the Game of Thrones theme tune.
"I got pretty freaked out to meet Pete Dinklage, because... there's just something about him..." Melissa explained on U.S. morning show Live! With Kelly and Michael, before adding of their constant humming, "By the 55th time he was like, 'I know the song!'"
However, it was Game of Thrones enthusiast Kristen who took full advantage of her time with Peter to find out everything she could about the fantasy show.

Melissa McCarthy says “dreamboat” Kristen Bell won her over with a “weird cashew dip”.
The comedy actress teamed up with Kristen for movie The Boss and the pair quickly bonded over their love of savoury snacks. Melissa knew she would enjoy working with Kristen as she is already close friends with her husband Dax Shephard, but her co-star’s culinary talents were a nice surprise.
“Kristen Bell is a real, real dreamboat,” Melissa said in an interview with biography.com. “I was trying to think of something terrible to say about her...But I just can’t! We just hit it off immediately. She’s super crazy, super funny, super nice, and she makes these weird cashew dips and brings it to the set. You show up on set with a cashew dip and I am all yours.”
Kristen made quite an impact on Melissa and the 45-year-old comedienne is still going to great lengths to persuade the blonde star to share her snack secrets. So far, Kristen has remained silent on her special recipe – much to Melissa’s frustration.

Frozen star Kristen Bell is struggling with her emotions now she's no longer a nursing mum.
The actress stopped breastfeeding her youngest child last week (ends01Apr16) and admits she was not ready to "let it go".
"I really loved it... and I feel a little lonely," she told Access Hollywood Live. "It makes you feel very valuable. No one in my house wants to nurse anymore."
Kristen was somewhat of a milk factory after the birth of her second child, because she was still breastfeeding her first.

Kristen Bell was impressed with her co-star Melissa McCarthy's generosity when she halted filming on their new movie to rush to the aid of an injured dog.
The stray was hit by a car on a street near where the two stars were shooting The Boss with Melissa's director husband Ben Falcone, and the animal lover jumped into action.
"She, like, stopped and ran in and was like, 'Here's my credit card, take it to the vet!'" Kristen told Access Hollywood Live.
"She got it the surgery that it needed and then found a home for it. Everybody knows she's funny, but she's such a good (person)."
Actress Kristen Bell receives a rude awakening every morning from her screaming kids.
Lincoln, three, and 15-month-old Delta, the Frozen star's two daughters with her actor husband Dax Shepard, insist on screaming the house down the moment they wake up.
"It's a circus," Kristen told U.S. talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. "I love it. I love them. But, you know what? You know where we could do better? Why does everyone wake up screaming?"
"Why don't they tell you that (about parenthood)?" the exasperated mother complained. "Like, 'They're going to wake up screaming for, like, four years'. You wake up - the moment you wake up, you're in, like, a horror movie, because everyone in the house is screaming b**ody murder!"

She admits she still has her pregnancy underwear.
Kristen Bell has opened up about some of the more intimate scenes between her and Melissa McCarthy on the set of their new movie 'The Boss', directed by McCarthy's husband Ben Falcone. No-one can deny McCarthy's comedic genius, but there's one scene in particular that early viewers crying with laughter.
Kristen Bell talks boob business in The Boss
Bell plays a dowdy single mother named Claire who's struggling to pay her bills on the meagre wage her job as an assistant to wealthy entrepreneur Michelle Darnell pays. When Michelle is sent to prison for insider trading, however, everything changes, except that upon her release, there's only one person she feels she can turn to for help. Claire opens up her home to her bawdy and irresponsible former boss so that she can get back on her feet, and in return Michelle wants to give Claire the confidence she desperately needs so she can start dating again.
Kristen Bell explains what made making The Boss so memorable. As well as working with a wealth of female talent (she describes her co-star Melissa McCarthy as 'Impenetrably funny' yet 'exceptionally kind and emotionally connected') Kristen tells us about some of the kids that made shooting the film so fun.
