Composer and music legend T Bone Burnett organised the celebrity salute at the War Memorial Auditorium, which took place hours after Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam declared Clement an "ambassador of goodwill for the state".
Clement, a renowned producer and studio engineer who is battling liver cancer, watched the tribute from the audience and appeared to be overwhelmed at times as the likes of Emmylou Harris, Vince Gill, Charley Pride, Rodney Crowell, Kristofferson and Auerbach performed.
Kristofferson told the audience, "I owe everything that ever happened good to me to Jack."
Clement himself closed the night from a stool onstage, where he performed a five-song medley.
As well as music, actor Earl Brown read a passage from Clement's unpublished autobiography and Nashville star Connie Britton read a tribute letter from Michelle Obama, while Clinton, Taylor Swift and Marty Stuart were among the stars who offered up video messages to the Nashville music legend.
