Kim Kardashian and Kanye West both chose the name North West for their daughter, Kris Jenner has revealed.

Kris - who is mother to Kim and manages her career - insists it was a ''joint decision'' by the couple to give their first child the directional moniker.

In an interview with Huffington Post Live, she said: ''I think it was a joint decision. They did it together ... I stayed out of that one.''

The couple - who welcomed their first child into the world in June - were criticised by many showbiz commentators and fans for giving their daughter the odd name.

But Kris, 57, approves of the name her granddaughter has been given because of the meaning behind it.

The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star said: ''North is the highest power. And their baby North, their little girl, is the highest point and power between the two of them. So I thought that was really cool. When a baby's born and you give it a name and you're really sure about it ... that's just going to be that baby's energy. So I'm excited.''

Kris has previously hinted baby North may debut on her new daytime talk show 'Kris' which airs on July 15.

She said: ''I think you're just going to have to wait and see and tune in, because I'm not sure exactly what's going happen. I won't tell you it won't happen. (I'll) give you a little something to think about. You never know who's going to show up.''
