The reality TV star and her rapper husband Kanye West have been struggling to give their 21-month-old North a sibling, and on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians that aired in U.S. on Sunday (05Apr15), it was revealed a complication with her uterus from her first pregnancy is at the root of the problem.

Kardashian met with a fertility expert who urged her to consider surrogacy as she may struggle to carry a baby full term and a second birth could be potentially life-threatening.

Dr. Huang said, "You can still get pregnant, but it does expose you to risks during the pregnancy... If I can't guarantee that and surrogacy is the only way to give you a comfortable pregnancy and a nice healthy baby, we'll talk about that."

Kardashian then told her mother Kris, "To have a surrogate is really scary to me. I don't want one. I wouldn't dare ask anyone to do that for me."

In an upcoming episode, Kardashian will be seen undergoing surgery on her uterus in a bid to boost her fertility.
