Kim Kardashian faced questions concerning her infamous sex-tape while being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey for 'Oprah's Next Chapter' on Sunday (June 17, 2012). Since the release of the tape - through Vivid Entertainment - Kim has risen to become a global superstar, appearing in her own reality show, releasing fragrance lines and appearing on magazine covers.
She filmed the tape with her ex-boyfriend Ray J, though appears to concede that it positively impacted on her career. When asked by Oprah, "Would you be where you are had there not been a sex tape?", Kim replied, "You know, I think that's how I was definitely introduced to the world. It was a negative way, so I felt like I really had to work ten times harder to get people to see the real me". Kardashian also took the opportunity to shoot down speculation she had released the tape herself, and mother Kris Jenner claims it was a "really bad day" for her when the tape found its way online, though recalled telling her daughter at the time, "We can get through anything". Nowadays, Kim - who is dating Kanye West - says she embraces the sex tape for jump starting her fame, conceding, "I have to live with the choices I have made. And I can't dwell on it".
Her celebrity lifestyle hit a nadir last year when she split from husband Kris Humphries after just 72 days of marriage. The couple had tied the knot in front of the television cameras, during a lavish wedding in Montecito, California, though the cracks began to appear almost immediately.
