Kim Kardashian Defends 10% Charity Auction Donation To Typhoon Haiyan Victims
It's always encouraging when celebrities decide to share their wealth with charities so when a Kim Kardashian auction was held on eBay with proceeds said to be going to the Filipino victims of the recent Typhoon Haiyan, it was hoped that others would be prompted to do the same.
Kim Was Bashed For Only Giving 10% Of A Charity Auction To Charity.
However, the reality television star has since made headlines when it was revealed that only ten percent of the auction proceeds are actually going to charity. The star, whose net worth is rumoured to be $40 million, was slammed by critics for being stingy in only offering a comparatively meagre amount to the needy cause.
The 33 year-old mother of one has hit back in a blog post entitled "Giving Comes From The Heart," which attempts to justify the amount she chooses to give to charity. "I feel compelled to speak about something that is in my head and my heart. Over the years, I've had to grow a thick skin. Being in the public eye, there are times I feel like I get criticized for any and everything I do," she wrote.

Kim revealed that each month she's auctions items on eBay through the site's 'Giving Works' charitable arm. Though bidders may perhaps assume that all proceeds from an item listed in the charity department will go to the designated cause, Kim reveals that it is not so.
"When the eBay numbers get broken down, the auction management agency that posts for me gets a percentage for all of their hard work, then eBay listing fees, end of auction fees, eBay Store fees, Paypal fees, etc., all add up to about half of the sale. Then I give 10% to a charity," she explained, though failed to account for the approximate missing figure of 40%.
Kim asserts that her late father, O.J Simpson's defense attorney Robert Kardashian, made her understand the importance of giving, and tells her readers that most of her charitable work is not publicised. "I don't publicize everything I do to help charities and people all over the world. I do it because I want to [...] So for people to attack me for giving 10% of my eBay auction sales to the people of the Philippines, that hurts," Kim wrote.

She revealed how she picks a different charity to auction for each month and has apparently done so for some time: "Over the last 5+ years, I have listed thousands of items on eBay Giving Works for various causes. I will continue to do what is in my heart and am happy to know many others have enjoyed purchasing from me, as they too are giving with me."
As a final message to those who find fault in her actions, Kim rounded off: "Giving comes from the heart. We all need to be reminded of this as we celebrate the holiday season this year."
