In a world where we rely on our mobiles phones for just about everything, we still don't have a set etiquette on when and where we should or shouldn't use them. Still, there are some places and times when it's just not acceptable at all, including in moments of silence in honour of the dead or social struggles. Unfortunately some audience members didn't take heed and surprise, surprise it was these three...

Kim Kardashian and her younger half siblings Kylie and Kendall Jenner seemingly slipped up during the latter whilst attending the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (24th August). Rapper Common was on stage presenting the award for Best Hip Hop video when he called for a moment's silence so the audience could consider the situation in Ferguson, Missouri.

As the majority of the English speaking world is aware, protests were held after an unarmed black teenager Michael Brown was shot by a police officer at the beginning of August. Common took the opportunity on the eve of Brown's funeral, held today (25th August) as the BBC reports, to honour those attempting to affect change and in Brown's memory. Common said, as Buzzfeed reports, "I want us all to take a moment of silence for Mike Brown and for peace in this country and the world."

Common requested a moment of silence whilst presenting at the MTV VMAs on Sunday.

However, it seems the three reality stars were unsure - to give them the benefit of the doubt - as to the protocol for a moment's silence. Whilst the cameras rolled, the three were apparently spotted chatting and checking their mobile phones. Numerous members of the audience, watching from home, uploaded pictures on to social media of the Kim, Kendall and Kylie seemingly ignoring Common's request.

Numerous Twitter users uploaded pictures including one viewer Kjerstin Ferris who added the comment "How dumb to think you weren't being filmed in a VMA moment of silence." Ferris also attached a picture which appears to show all three looking at their phones allegedly during the moment.
