Sliding Doors single, 3rd September
Kid Acne's new single, Sliding Doors, will be released on September 3rd 2007. Sliding Doors is taken from the album Romance Ain't Dead, 17th September.
Straight outta South Yorks comes "the rap Jonnie Briggs" and Sheffield's one-man answer to the Beastie Boys; the gob-wobbling, microphone-bothering rap powerhouse known as Kid Acne. Sliding Doors is an acerbic yet ultra catchy aural assault and includes fantastic fresh mixes from leading Brit-hopper Jehst, digi-ragga destroyer Toddla T, as well as exclusive track Fantasy Rap II. The single arrives shortly before Kid Acne's full album, Romance Ain't Dead; a short, sharp, 11 track shock to the ear drums that's filled with more bangers than an overstocked sausage factory and - like Sliding Doors - is one of the funniest yet slickest records you're likely to hear all year.
The song is inspired by a hazy and drunken, post-pub conversation on how small, seemingly trivial incidents can be Sliding Doors style life-changing events, and a friend's commenting; "yeah, makes you think don't it." Throughout Sliding Doors Acne runs rampant, ripping rhymes all over the rowdy jamorbree of beats. Fantasy Rap II then witnesses our kid bigging up Lutterworth, Dance Energy and Rhyme Syndicate; name checking Fathers For Justice, and referencing duckbilled platypus. Jehst has established himself as a major pioneering force within homegrown hip-hop thanks to some high-grade output which includes classics; Adventures In New Bohemia, People Under The Weather, Return Of The Drifter and Run Hard. Now spending more time in the producer's chair rather than behind the mic, the ex-Yorkshire native nails a blissful, down tempo remix allowing Ackers' fun-packed lyrics to shine through. Sheffield's Toddla T finishes proceedings in style with a stripped back electro-dancehall, bleep-biased rerub. Toddla's own stunning new Fil Up Me Potion is already causing a kerfuffle and his Sliding Doors remix will surely only add to his rapidly-growing reputation.
