Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey has amazed guests at a London theatre - by putting on a star-studded series of plays that were written, rehearsed and staged in only 24 hours.

The AMERICAN BEAUTY star is the artistic director of the capital's OLD VIC and managed to cajole 24 actors - including Jim Broadbent, Emilia Fox and Bond girl ROSAMUND PIKE - into participating in last night's (06JUN04) fundraiser for the theatre's play writing programme.

The 44-year-old says, "Writing and staging a play usually takes nine months, but at the Old Vic we believe you can conceive and give birth on the same day.

"There were a few fluffed lines and missed cues but there wouldn't be a sense of danger if there weren't a little blood on the floor."
