Kevin Spacey fans were sincerely disappointed to hear that the actor wouldn’t be appearing as the villain in the next James Bond movie, which is due to be released in 2015. Spacey explained to BBC news: “I don’t know why people keep writing about this. I’ve been offered no role, I’ve never read a script, no, I am not doing the next James Bond movie.” He added, “I don’t know who started the rumour but stop it.”

Well, actually, it seems as though he started the rumour himself, back in 2012. When it was suggested that he would be up for the role of Bond villain, he told the Evening Standard: “I would hope [Bond producers] the Broccolis agree [that I would make a good Bond villain] and that Sam [Mendes] is going to do the next one. That would be a lot of fun. I adore him. I had some of the most seminal experiences of my career with him, both a decade ago with American Beauty and last year with Richard III.”

There you have it, folks! If Spacey hadn’t confirmed years ago that he would like to play a Bond villain then maybe he wouldn’t find himself dogged by rumours today. Although, to be fair, there’s worse rumours to have going around. We personally think that he’d make an incredible Bond villain. If you just look at his performance as the cool, calculating antagonist in the 1995 movie Seven, it’s clear to see that he’s got the bad guy routine down to a tee. His performance in Seven was so popular and so chilling he was even awarded the MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.

His most recent role as the Machiavellian Francis Underwood in the Netflix series House of Cards is further proof that no-one plays a bad guy quite like Kevin Spacey. Spacey has further denied the rumours, citing the fact that he has recently worked with Mendes as further proof that he won’t be starring in a Bond flick. The two have just finished working on Richard III and they can be seen on screen together in the documentary Now: In the Wings on a World Stage.

“Obviously if he [Mendes] wanted me he could have offered me the role. I don’t even know if there is a role frankly,” he explained to BBC News.

We’re still holding out for news that Spacey will be the next Bond villain, he’s certainly got the resume for it and may be the only actor who could rival the supreme creepiness that was Javier Bardem’s Silva in Skyfall.
