Risen Trailer

After Jesus of Nazareth is crucified and laid to rest in a sealed tomb by the Romans following wild claims of his being King of the Jews by his followers, it is up to a sceptical Centurion named Clavius to quell subsequent rumours of his rising from death. With talk of his resurrection as the Messiah, Pontius Pilate is facing a possible uprising by angry civilians of Jerusalem, and when it's discovered that his body has gone missing from his grave, Clavius and his assistant Lucius have only a short time to discover what's happened to him, not wishing for the Emperor to return to chaos. They suspect his disciples have stolen the corpse and so order the retrieval of all recently deceased men, but when they get no further to finding him, will they be forced to accept an extraordinary, impossible truth?

Red Dawn Review

Weak
I wonder if someone tossed a copy of Red Dawn into Ronald Reagan's casket before they buried the old guy. I can't imagine a movie he would have loved more. A highly absurd Gipper-era relic, it makes the "Evil Empire" days of 1984 seem like a million years ago. Anyone under the age of 35 will watch this propaganda exercise about a terrifyingly successful Soviet invasion of small-town America and say, "Huh???"

Ignoring the outrageous jingoism for a minute, it should be noted that the movie does have plenty of forward momentum, starting from the moment when a bunch of Wyoming high schoolers (all '80s A- and B-list Brat Packers) look out their classroom window and see a huge number of paratroopers dropping into town. The soldiers who don't speak Russian speak Spanish. It seems that the Soviets have made a successful nuclear first strike (hey, that's cheating!) and have joined forces with ominously swarthy Cuban and Nicaraguan troops to storm a suddenly crippled America. The kids don't know all of this yet, though. All they know is that one of the soldiers has murdered their teacher right in front of them. Godless Commies!

Fandango Review

Excellent
Kevin Costner didn't get his start in Fandango, but he might as well have. This classic comedy gave us an early-career Costner as head of the "Groovers," a band of five roommates who decide to take one quick road trip after graduating from The University of Texas in 1971 -- only to find the spectre of Vietnam (and marriage) waiting for them in a matter of days.
