It was never going to be easy to match the impact of 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, which jolted the Marvel franchise to life with its fresh comedy and freewheeling adventure. This sequel is still a lot of fun, but it's also far more controlled, a conventional, plot-based step of the Marvel universe. And all of the characters are angry about everything and everyone. Thankfully, there's also an emotionality that sneaks into the final act.
Now working as a team, the bickering Guardians just manage to complete their latest mission when Rocket (Bradley Cooper) makes an enemy of a tenacious high priestess (Elizabeth Debicki). Her fleet chases them into an encounter with Ego (Kurt Russell), a god-like being who claims to be the father of Guardian leader Peter (Chris Pratt). So Peter takes Gamora and Drax (Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista) to check out Ego's planet, while Rocket and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) fend off both the priestess and Peter's old mentor Yondu (Michael Rooker), who arrives with a large posse. And then there's Gamora's perpetually furious sister Nebula (Karen Gillan), who's on the rampage, determined to get revenge against everyone who has slighted her.
There's an underlying rage that drives everyone's actions, and the constant screaming matches become exhausting as the film progresses. The worst offender is Rocket, who expresses his perpetual aggravation in a stream of tetchy tirades. Thankfully, the dialogue is sharply written, with wicked insults to keep the audience smirking along. And there's also a nice sense that all of this fury is masking a deeper affection these misfits have for each other, which boils over in some remarkably strong dramatic scenes. Pratt and Russell are both terrific, seizing every chance to play with the comedic and dramatic notes. There are nice moments for Rooker, Saldana and Gillan, plus some witty cameos. And while Baby Groot is almost painfully adorable, it's Bautista's hilariously open-hearted Drax who steals the show.

Feige thinks a "new thing" could be on the horizon.
Kevin Feige, the creative boss at Marvel has some big plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Heading up the studio that pushes out some of the biggest movies in existence, he has a clear vision of what the next few years will look like when it comes to the current era, otherwise known as Phase 4.
Scarlett Johansson stars as Black Widow in the 'Avengers' series
Now though he seems to have confirmed that by the time 'Avengers 4' hits the big screen in 2019, fans will have a whole other "new thing" to look forward to. In bringing this Phase to an end, major plans are going to have to be put in place to reel everybody back in when a whole new era begins.

Despite Deadpool and Logan's success, there are no major plans for future R-rated Marvel movies.
For many years, the prospect of an R-rated movie set within the Marvel universe was hugely unlikely. Then came along the anti-hero Deadpool and, upon claiming his own solo film with Ryan Reynolds in the titular role, the movie was slapped with the highest certification and Hollywood was officially shaken up.
Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart starred in R-rated movie 'Logan'
There was no telling whether or not 'Deadpool' would be a success, but fans voted with their cash in the box office and delivered record-breaking numbers for the R-rated release. Now fast-forward to today and we've just seen the hugely successful release of 'Logan', with the planned 'Deadpool 2' sequel set for release in 2018.

Shane Black has revealed that the original script contained a female villain instead of Guy Pearce’s Killian.
Iron Man 3 director Shane Black has shed new light on the sexism in the movie industry, by describing how the villain in the 2013 Marvel film had to be changed from female to male, to help toy sales. Speaking to Uproxx, Black said that after the draft of the film’s script was finished, he received a memo saying the villain’s gender had to be changed to male, because a female toy wouldn't sell as well.
Shane Black has revealed how Iron Man 3’s villain was changed from male to female.
“All I’ll say is this, on the record: There was an early draft of Iron Man 3 where we had an inkling of a problem,” Black began. “Which is that we had a female character who was the villain in the draft.” The character is thought to be Rebecca Hall’s Maya Hansen, who ended up having a much smaller part.
Kevin Feige, president of the studio, was interviewed by two publications over the weekend and addressed the issue on both occasions.
The President of Marvel Studios has revealed that the movies franchise will feature a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender character “in the next decade or sooner”.
Kevin Feige was interviewed by Collider and Slash over the weekend, within days of the historic federal ruling which legalised same sex marriage across the entirety of the United States, and inevitably the portrayal of homosexuality in the Marvel universe cropped up on both occasions.
While there are no concrete plans in place to include such a character in any of the movies scheduled – basically, up until the end of the decade – Feige suggested that it would be a certainty at some stage. “Well in the drawing board going up to 2019 it remains to be seen,” he told Collider.
Al Pacino could potentially appear in 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2'.
Al Pacino has revealed that he has met with Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige about a potential project. Though the meetings don't appear to have amounted to much yet, Pacino thinks Feige has something on his mind.

The biggest hint yet that Black Panther and Captain Marvel are on their way
Kevin Fiege opened up on the sheer amount of fan demand for both Black Panther and Captain Marvel, confirming that, behind Iron Man 4 and Avengers 3, it’s what the Marvel fanatics are pining for the most.
“They're both characters that we like, that development work has been done, it's continuing to be done on, and certainly it's the question I get asked more than anything else, more than Iron Man 4, more than Avengers 3,” he explained. “That's sort of the first time that's really happened to us, so I think that makes a difference.”
Scarlett Johansson could be leading her own 'Black Widow' movies. Yes, yes, yes.
Scarlett Johansson has added her name to the list of those wanting a Black Widow spin-off movie. Considering the actress has starred as Natasha Romanoff and her alter ego in Iron Man 2, The Avengers and most recently Captain America: The Winter Soldier - we'd consider that a pretty strong recommendation.

President Kevin Feige recently revealed that Marvel Studios is developing early ideas for a Black Widow spinoff and Johansson backed those plans at the UK premiere of the Captain America sequel on Thursday (March 20, 2014).

Scarlett Johansson Has Openly Embraced The Notion Of A Black Widow Spin-Off Movie.
Scarlett's embrace of her many fans' wish for her to take centre-stage in her own superhero movie echoes Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige's announcement that Johansson's character is to be explored further in Captain America and The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and that a standalone movie may also be in the works.

Could The Punisher gatecrash a possible Daredevil film?
Kevin Feige may have been talking about Thor to Bleeding Cool, but such is his reach in the Marvel universe, it wasn’t long before talk turned to other characters and their futures. The Punisher and Daredevil fans, pay attention.
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
“We’re trying to figure out what to do with Daredevil now,” explains Feige, adding that “Punisher could show up at one point.”
