Hollywood actor Kevin Costner will speak at the star-studded funeral of Whitney Houston in Newark, New Jersey, on Saturday (February 18, 2012), according to People magazine. As Whitney Houston's first ever leading man - in 'The Bodyguard' - Costner will address those gathered at the New Hope Baptist Church to speak about the passing of his close friend and former co-star.
Houston made her silver-screen debut in the 1992 hit movie, which raked in over $400 million at the box-office. The film also featured Houston's huge Dolly Parton penned song 'I Will Always Love You', which has been amongst a flurry of the singer's hits that have sold on a huge scale since her tragic death last Saturday. The soundtrack to The Bodyguard, as well as Whitney's self-titled debut album are understood to be amongst the biggest selling albums of the past week, with Houston posthumously shifting over one-million albums. As well as Costner, Houston's record producer and mentor Clive Davis will speak at the funeral, and a musical performance will be given by Houston's godmother Aretha Franklin. A source close to the singer's family said Clive in particular had been instrumental in keeping spirits up over the past few days, saying, "They're leaning on him for emotional support. He talks to them hourly, and he's a very big part in planning her funeral.Clive has been a constant presence for them. They're thanking God for Clive".
Whitney Houston, 48, was found submerged in the bathtub of her fourth-floor suite at the Beverly Hilton hotel on Saturday. Toxicology tests will determine the exact cause of her death, but they are not expected for a further six to eight weeks.
