Swift eases the blow for Kesha with generous legal grant.
Heartbreaking images from the New York Supreme Court over the weekend showed pop singer Kesha in floods of tears as a judge ruled that she would not be freed from her contract with her alleged abuser Dr. Luke. But a beacon of light is still glowing for her as Taylor Swift donates a quarter of a million dollars to help her continue to fight her case.
Kesha's fans remain behind her as she continues to fight
Swift's generosity could mark a huge turning point for the 'Tik Tok' hitmaker, who was denied freedom from Lukasz Gottwald's Sony-subsidiary label Kemosabe Records by New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich on Friday (February 19th 2016). A representative for Swift confirmed her generosity in a statement. 'In a show of support, Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time', they said, while Kesha's mother also took to Twitter to show her gratitude for the 'Bad Blood' singer.
'A persons wealth is not measured by what they have but by WHO they help with it. And Taylor Swift is a truly RICH PERSON. Thank you', she said.
Kesha's lawsuit against Dr. Luke has been ongoing since October 2014 when she claimed the producer 'sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused' her since she was 18-years-old. In December 2015, Dr. Luke maintained his denial of the allegations in a statement reading: 'All of their horrific allegations of abuse, threats and other purported misconduct by me against Kesha are completely untrue and deeply hurtful.'
And it seems that the judge agreed with him because she ruled against granting a preliminary injunction that would allow her to continue her career recording music outside of her contract so that she was able to make a living. 'You're asking the court to decimate a contract that was heavily negotiated and typical for the industry', Kornreich explained to the prosecution's attorney Mark Geragos. 'My instinct is to do the commercially reasonable thing.'
Dr. Luke's attorney Christine Lepera made a statement following the ruling expressing her delight and re-affirming their stance against Kesha: 'We remain confident that when all the facts are presented that Ms. Sebert's allegations against Luke will be shown to be completely false and were asserted solely to extort money and gain contractual leverage.'
Meanwhile, fans and celebrities continue to show their support and compassion, with a crowd of demonstrators chanting 'Free Kesha' outside the courtroom during the hearing. Plus, the likes of Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato and Lorde have gone public with their own words of comfort. 'There are people all over the world who love you Kesha. And I can say truly I am in awe of your bravery', said Gaga, with Lovato reassuring her that 'this is only gonna make you stronger, you brave and beautiful girl'. Lorde openly said that she was 'standing with Kesha through this traumatic, deeply unfair time'.
