Kesha has claimed she was offered her freedom if she agreed to lie and publicly apologise.
Producer Dr Luke has responded to claims made by Kesha over the weekend that she was ‘offered her freedom’ if she lied and said she ‘never got raped’. Kesha made the claims in an Instagram post on Sunday, that most likely referred to her contract with Dr Luke, which is currently the subject of an ongoing legal battle.
Kesha has claimed she was offered her freedom in return for lying.
The post on Kesha’s Instagram page read: “So. I got offered my freedom IF i were to lie. I would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that I never got raped. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH."
"I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again.” But a spokesperson for Dr Luke (real name Lukasz Gottwald) has branded Kesha’s claims a ‘publicly stunt’ and accused her of being motivated by ‘personal enrichment’.
“The Court repeatedly stated Kesha is already free to record without Dr Luke, and that she had not presented any facts supporting her claims,” the spokesperson for Gottwald told Rolling Stone.
“That’s because all the evidence – including Kesha’s own videotaped sworn testimony – show her allegations are false. The only thing Kesha is not free to do is to continue to lie about Dr Luke through publicity stunts and outrageous smears, ignoring the fact that by her own free will she went to work and entered into new contracts with Dr Luke years after this ‘incident’ supposedly happened.”
“Her goal all along has been solely personal enrichment by seeking to break contracts that brought her success and millions so she can enter into more lucrative ones. We look forward to our day in court holding Kesha accountable for her lies.”
Last month Kesha launched an appeal against the February court ruling which dismissed her request for a preliminary injunction that would allow her to record music outside of Dr. Luke's purview.
After the February ruling Dr Luke’s lawyers released a statement saying that Kesha was already free to record and release music without working with Dr. Luke and that, “any claim that she isn't 'free' is a myth."
