Singer Kenny Rogers is estranged from his first child because he made an agreement with his ex-wife to stay out of her life.

Janice Gordon fell pregnant the night Rogers lost his virginity when he was 19, and the couple wed in May, 1958.

But the union was doomed and the couple separated two years later.

Rogers' teenage sweetheart quickly remarried and asked the country star to stay out of her life.

He tells Fox News, "I don't (have any contact with my daughter), but that was my promise to them, that I would be her father but he (his ex-wife's second husband) would be her dad, and I don't want to disrupt that.

"He stepped in at a time that was really awkward for all of us and he became her dad, and I love him for that. He was a good guy."

Meanwhile, Rogers has four other kids - eight-year-old twins and two grown children.
