Kenneth Branagh's decision to strip off on the London stage has paid off - he's been nominated in the EVENING STANDARD THEATRE AWARDS' Best Actor category.

The MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING star impressed in the NATIONAL THEATRE's EDMOND, which was the respected actor's first stage role for 11 years and required him to appear nude.

Branagh competes against Kate Beckinsale's ex-boyfriend Michael Sheen, nominated for CALIGUILA and veteran British TV favourite Warren Mitchell.

The acclaimed JERRY SPRINGER - THE OPERA has also secured a nomination in the Best Musical category.
