The 'Live! with Kelly and Michael' co-host was reported to have been so upset at Strahan's announcement of his departure last week that she didn't appear on the show the next day.
Following a week of tense drama and speculation, Kelly Ripa finally returned to ‘Live!’ on Tuesday (April 26th) for the first time since her co-host Michael Strahan announced his departure to ‘Good Morning America’.
Walking out hand-in-hand with Strahan in a show of unity that not all viewers thought was entirely convincing, Ripa addressed the potentially awkward situation head on by speaking to the audience before starting the show.
“Guys, guys, guys – our long national nightmare is over,” she quipped to laughs from the studio. “Look, I am fairly certain that there are trained professional snipers with tranquilizer darts in case I drift too far off message.”
Ripa is said to have been blind sighted by the news that her co-host was leaving for ‘GMA’.
Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan may have seemed like the best of friends while hosting ‘Live’ every morning, but according to reports the presenters didn’t have the best relationship off-screen. Things are said to have been tense between Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan off-air.
But a source told The New York Post, that tensions between the pair is nothing new, explaining that any chemistry they exhibited was “all for the show.” “They could not stand each other,” the source added. “Whenever they communicated off-camera, it was always through their reps.”

Kelly Ripa has admitted to getting Botox in her face and armpits, claiming it makes her makeup artist's life easier. The American talk show host - named by the Hollywood Reporter as one of the most powerful people in the media for 2012 - revealed to Elle magazine that she gets Botox every seven months or so.
In her feature on the TV star, the magazine's Irina Aleksander wrote, "The spin class is punishing, but Ripa seems to outperform the twenty-somethings manically pedaling around her and emerges looking almost like she did when she arrived." Later, in the interview with Ripa, the TV star revealed, "It's the Botox. Every seven months or so my eyelid skin rests on my eyelashes. So I feel like it makes my makeup artist's life easier, and it makes my eyes look a little more open on TV, which is where I happen to work right now." The miniscule TV host even opened up about her impressive 16-year marriage to Latin heartthrob Mark Consuelos, saying, "I actually call [Mark] Desi, because the thing about Desi was that as much attention as Lucy got, Desi was always in charge."
The couple live in New York's Soho neighbourhood with their three children, Michael, 15, Lola, 11, and Joaquin, 9.
