Kelly Osbourne shocked the world when she announced the end of her engagement to Matthew Mosshart on Wednesday (January 8), but it looks like it was the right thing for everyone. Never one to keep her feelings to herself, Kelly's mom Sharon Osbourne decided to comment on the end of the relationship.

"I can't talk for my daughter, [but] Matthew is a lovely guy," Osbourne said on her show The Talk (via Us Weekly). "They had two great years together of fun and love and to me, that's why engagements are so important."

For Sharon Osbourne, the engagement was less of a "let's spend the rest of our lives together" commitment, and more of a "let's see if we like each other" test.

"Engagements are a test run, aren't they? And so it didn't work for whatever reason but they are still good friends and will continue to be," she continued. "It's just not right for them right now. So -- let the auditions begin!"

Kelly Osbourne and Mosshart met less than three years ago, and announced their engagement in July 2013. Osbourne is currently working for the E! News Fashion Police as a host, and made the announcement just before the beginning of the 2014 awards season.

Her rep explained, "the split is amicable and the pair continue to have nothing but the utmost respect for one another. Kelly is looking forward to a new year full of fresh beginnings. No further comments will be provided by all parties and we request privacy, decorum and space from the press but don't expect it."
