Kelly McGillis has spoken out about coming out as gay. Kelly Mcgillis, star of classic 1980s films Top Gun and Witness, has spoken at length about dealing openly with her sexuality.
In an interview with EW, Mcgillis revealed why she finally decided to make it public:
"Fundamentally, I was just tired of lying about who I am. I've reached a point where my kids are grown, they're out of the house, they no longer have to be concerned that their friends, their friends' families, will put them in compromising emotional situations because of my sexual preference."
The actress added, "I don't have any profound wisdom, no profound insight, I only have my truth and my experience to offer others. And I was living a frigging lie."
Mcgillis has just completed a new horror film with Jim Mickles, Stake Land, in which she plays a nun struggling for survival in a post-apocalyptic vampire America.
The revealing interview also explained why she was shifting her focus from acting to charity work, at a rehab centre in New Jersey:
" I'm not giving up acting. I love acting. That's a huge part of me. But I also have other things that I'd like to do in my life before I leave this planet and being of service to others is a huge part of that."
Stake Land was released on Friday 22nd April 2011.
