Singer Kelly Clarkson finds it tough to return home and visit friends and family in her native Texas because they always quiz the "old maid" about her single status.
The 29-year-old star, who has been dogged by questions about her sexuality, admits she has struggled to find a boyfriend while working on her non-stop pop career, but pals back in the small city of Burleson can't understand why she isn't already married with kids.
She says, "I'm from a small town so everyone's, like, married with children, having children or about to have children, so it's a little hard when you go home... and that's why people think I'm gay.
"They're like, 'I don't understand why you're not married.' And I'm like, 'Well, it's not like that, it doesn't happen for everyone.' For Burleson, in Texas... I'm an old maid!"
But that doesn't mean the Since U Been Gone hitmaker isn't looking for love: "I've dated some cool guys, but I don't know if I've met someone I can spend the rest of my life with... I haven't found anyone that I would put that (career) on the side for. I might not wanna do this when I'm 50, so I might as well do as much of it as I can now.
"I wanna be married, I wanna find someone... It looks romantic and all!"
And she insists she's due some love good luck: "The last date I went on was horrible."
