Barclaycard Mercury Prize Sessions return to Channel 4 this week with a longer show and new presenter, Alice Levine. The run of programmes will air on Wednesday nights over the next five weeks. Each 45-minute episode will feature exclusive performances and interviews from some of the top bands and artists currently playing live in the UK - all filmed at The Hospital Club Studios in London's Covent Garden.
The Sessions are an exclusive series of gigs that the Barclaycard Mercury Prize established in 2009 to celebrate live music in the UK and are separate from the Barclaycard Mercury Prize 'Albums of the Year'. This fifth series sees a move to longer 45-minute multi-artist programmes, with Alice Levine interviewing artists in a specially created Barclaycard Unwind backstage area.
The first episode, which is to be broadcast at 12.05am on the night of Wednesday 14 May, features Metronomy, CHVRCHES and US rapper Angel Haze. Future shows include performances from Basement Jaxx, Bombay Bicycle Club, Broken Bells, Drenge, George Ezra, Kelis, Little Dragon, Lykke Li, NENEH CHERRY, The Horrors, Warpaint and Wild Beasts.
In addition to the tracks that will be broadcast on Channel 4, further footage from each performance will be available to watch online.
Mercury Prize Executive Producer, Dan Ford says: "The move to a longer form, multi-artist show is a really exciting development for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize Sessions. The lineup for this series is incredibly strong and it's great that we're able to bring music fans more stunning live performances than ever before."
Channel 4's Commissioning Editor for Music, Jonathan Rothery says: "I'm delighted that the Sessions show is returning to Channel 4 in a supersized way. It's testament to the pull of the Mercury Prize that this show is now firmly placed as a priority for top flight music acts. This series showcases an exceptional range of talent."
