Keith Richards was the target of a bomb plot after a 69-year-old man decided he would blow up the Rolling Stones legend as a gift.
Keith Richards was the target of a bomb plot.
Joseph C. Callahan, 69, from Connecticut, was arrested on Monday (07.10.13) for stockpiling guns, ammunition and home-made explosives after he allegedly told police he intended to blow up The Rolling Stones guitarist's house, although never wanted to hurt him.
The retired chemist - who was deemed mentally unstable at the time of his arrest - lives 10 miles away from Richards' home in Weston, and has been charged with 11 counts of illegal possession of explosives, six counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and one count of manufacturing bombs.
Armed forces allegedly raided Joseph's five-bedroom mansion last week and reportedly found 274 firearms, tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition and a huge amount of hazardous material, before authorities shut down the road and pulled in experts to deal with the dangerous equipment.
When asked by police about ammonium nitrate, he reportedly replied: ''That's the chemical used in the 1993 World Trade Centre bombing.''
Joseph is reportedly co-operating with police and has been released from custody to remove the rest of the chemicals from his property.
Richard Meehan, Joseph's lawyer, said last night (10.03.13): ''He is a delightful gentleman who never had any intention to make a bomb and never intended to hurt anybody.''
Joseph is due in court on October 16.
