Actress Keisha Castle-Hughes chose the best way possible to mark her OSCAR nomination yesterday (27JAN04) - she went back to sleep.
The 13-year-old New Zealander earned a Best Actress nod for her role in Whale Rider, making her the youngest girl to ever receive an ACADEMY AWARD nomination in the coveted category.
But the schoolgirl admits she was more concerned with getting her rest when her mother burst into her bedroom in Auckland to share the news at 3 am, saying, "I thought I was just dreaming... I'm not a morning person."
Calls from her Hollywood publicists ALAN NEIROB and NICOLE PEREZ soon followed.
Hughes adds, "They were yelling on the phone for me to get out of bed, have a shower and get some breakfast because I had just gone down in history. And that it when I thought, 'It's really happened.'
"I feel so overwhelmed. It's like I'm in a big whirlwind, and I'm going to wake up and it's all going to be over. It's not every day that someone runs into your room and tells you you are nominated for Best Actress."29/01/2004 17:02
