Katy Perry wants to star in a musical version of 'Clueless'.

The 'Roar' hitmaker has expressed interest in a role in the Broadway production to the movie's director Amy Heckerling - who has penned the lyrics for the stage show - and the filmmaker would be delighted to see her portray Cher Horowitz.

Amy told Vulture: ''[It's in the] really, really, early, early stages.

''Katy Perry has expressed interest, and I love her to death.''

The 60-year-old director - who also turned the 1995 high school movie into a TV series - also admitted she is a huge fan of singer Iggy Azalea and was ''flattered'' when she paid homage to the cult comedy, which starred Alicia Silverstone in the lead role, in the video for her single 'Fancy'.

Amy revealed she would even consider the 24-year-old singer for a role if Katy - who is currently in the middle of her 'Prismatic' world tour - is too busy to commit to the production.

She said: ''I was extremely flattered and I thought she was amazing. And whoever did the costumes, I don't know how they did that.

''It looked like they had more money for the video than I had for the movie.

''Maybe Iggy wants to do it!''
