Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' has finally been dispatched off the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 by Katy Perry's new hit single 'Roar.' After spending two weeks at No.2 'Roar' finally ended the 12-week reign of Thicke's hit single featuring Pharrell.

'Roar' is the first single from Katy Perry's upcoming album 'Prism' that is set for release on October 22nd and with the new single she has achieved her 8th No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100, with her first No.1 being 'I Kissed a Girl' from 2008. According to Billboard, the American singer "has quickly scaled the list of the women with the most No. 1s in the chart's 55-year history. Among female soloists, only Mariah Carey (18), Madonna, Rihanna (12 each), Whitney Houston (11) and Janet Jackson (10) have totalled more leaders".

'Roar' has topped the digital song charts for three weeks running, and according to Entertainment Weekly "in week one, the song sold 557,000 copies and in week two, it moved another 392,000 units, this week, "Roar" pummeled past the one million mark with a 14 percent increase to 448,000 downloads".

Katy Perry took to her twitter to thank fans for the support as she reached the number 1 spot. The 28 year old, also released two teaser tracks from her upcoming album in late August titled 'Dark Horse' and 'Walking On Air'. According to Enews, "the songs were chosen by Perry's loyal fans, who were given the opportunity via social media to hear an early snippet of two of the songs".

Eminem's new single 'Bezerk' breaks in at No.3 on the Hot 100 as well as being just behind Katy Perry in the Digital charts at No.2 with 362,000 downloads sold. 'Blurred Lines' has fallen back to No.2 on the Hot 100 but still holds the No.1 spot on the Hot R&B/Hip-hop songs for the 13th straight week.
