Katy Perry 's latest track 'Part of Me' is not about her former husband, Russell Brand. The blue-haired pop singer recently spoke to MTV News and explained that she had written the song two years ago. She puts it down to 'serendipity' that the lyrics are more pertinent to her situation than they were when she wrote the song.
Perry performed the song live at the 2012 Grammy awards (February 12, 2012) and instantly caught people's attention with lyrics such as "You can keep the diamond ring/It don't mean nothing anyway." Many assumed that the lyrics were a thinly veiled dig at her ex, who filed for divorce in December 2011 after just over a year of marriage. Katy also revealed to Mtv that she refused to lie about the origins of the song, explaining "Some people that I work with were like, 'You should just say you wrote it a couple of weeks ago. I'm like, 'I'm not a d---, I'm going to tell the truth.' I wrote it two years ago when I was writing and recording Teenage Dream; it didn't feel right on [that] record."
