As part of Katie Melua's ongoing commitment to Save The Children, Britain's biggest selling female singer will be donating Europe-wide proceeds from the physical and digital sales of her new single Spider's Web to the children's charity. Unavoidable third party costs including manufacturing and distribution will be deducted but all marketing and promotion costs will be absorbed by Katie's management and record company Dramatico Entertainment. Katie and the independent record label have also underwritten the fundraising activity by guaranteeing a minimum, undisclosed, contribution to Save The Children.
Following the success of her first album 'Call Off The Search' Katie Melua pledged her support to Save The Children by becoming their Education Ambassador and has subsequently been a dedicated and proactive supporter of the charity's work. Of particular and personal interest to Katie is the right of all children around the world to receive an education and in 2005 she travelled with Save the Children to eastern Sri Lanka to meet children affected by the tsunami and saw first hand how donations were being used for a two-year project, helping young survivors of the devastating Asian tsunami.
In 2007 Katie will be travelling to Beijing to raise funds for Save The Children by cycling along the Great Wall of China and later that year Katie will be holding a fundraising concert in Britain.
Katie: "When I gave my commitment to be an Ambassador for Save The Children it was not a decision I took lightly. Having seen their work at first hand I know how important their projects are and how crucial it is that funds are constantly raised to ensure that their work can continue. In addition to raising money it is also important to focus attention on the actual campaigns and I hope that these activities will achieve both those goals."
