Katie Holmes avoided mentioning Tom Cruise by name in a magazine interview conducted a day before she announced that she was filing for a divorce from the Hollywood superstar.
She was asked if the birth of her 6-year-old daughter Suri brought her and Cruise closer together as a couple but rather than answer the question, she made an unusual statement that seemed rather uncomfortable. "I don't know. I mean. I don't know", she said. "People have been having babies a long time". According to Women's Wear Daily, C Magazine editor Kelsey MCKinnon thought the 'Dawson's Creek' actress seemed rather cagey whilst they chatted. "Going back over the tapes, there were signs", said MCKinnon. "Holmes was certainly very aware of herself, laying a couple cards on the table but never showing her whole hand", she added: "She never actually refers to [Tom] by name over pages and pages of transcription".
In fact, Holmes, 33, seemed determined to keep the conversation on her career which she showed a lot more enthusiasm for. "I feel like I worked so much at such a young age that I really wanted to have life experiences", she remarked and explains that she is now ready to "take on some more challenging roles".
