A galaxy of stars including Katie Holmes and Eva Longoria gathered to watch David Beckham make his American soccer debut on Saturday (21Jul07). The British superstar is recovering from an ankle injury, so only played for his new team L.A. Galaxy for 13 minutes in the second half of the exhibition match against London side Chelsea. Although L.A. Speaking after his brief appearance, during which soccer-mad locals constantly chanted his name, Beckham said, "The ankle has swollen up slightly, but that was going to happen. We'll see how it is tomorrow. "It was a good performance from the team. We just lost one-nil. My 15 minutes, it was nice to get out there. I haven't trained all week. I hadn't kicked a ball yet today. I enjoyed it."
